Zion Apostolic Church has a rich history that goes back to 1916 when Rev. Franklin Small began tent meetings on the banks of Winnipeg’s Red River in which there were many miracles of healing. As people received Christ and a place of regular ongoing worship, teaching and ministry was needed, a church was established in 1917. Throughout the years Zion Church has remained a church in Winnipeg known to have a passion to see people saved, healed, ministered to by the Holy Spirit and established in their faith through the teaching of the Word of God.
Zion Church also has an apostolic vision for church planting and has either planted churches or assisted churches to become established as viable ministries in Winnipeg and abroad. Some of these ministries are Christ the King Apostolic Church, House of the Risen Son and Church of Christ El Shaddai. We currently share our building facility with two of these ministries. El Shaddai, a small Spanish Church who desire to reach the Spanish community in Winnipeg, currently hold Sunday afternoon services at Zion Church. House of the Risen Son, a church aimed at being relevant and seeker friendly to those of the motor cycle culture, hold Sunday services in the evenings .
Out of a desire to touch the neighborhood around us and to minister to the poor in our community, Zion Church and House of the Risen Son have partnered to make a considerable impact on our community through a Food Bank, Clothing Exchange, a 12-Step Program for addiction recovery, a Men’s Recovery Home, a Youth Drop in Center, a Christian Motorcycle Club as well as other annual community outreach events such as Children’s VBS Ministry during the week of Spring break followed by a Community Pancake Breakfast on Easter Sunday, Love Winnipeg and Evangelistic Outreach in the park in the summer months.
God is at work at Zion Apostolic Church—if you haven’t visited, we invite you to come and experience an exciting church where people come together to passionately go after God.
Having a purpose and a vision to live out is crucial for life, meaning and community. Why do we meet together as a people and why do we do the things we do? These questions are answered through our mission statement which keeps us focused on our purpose and our reason for existence.
What is our purpose? We believe God has brought us to the heart of Winnipeg to minister to the hearts of people. This will be accomplished by: “Growing closer to God, Growing closer to each other, Growing the Kingdom of God in Winnipeg and beyond.” This is based on the teachings of Jesus:
Our Mission:
Our Core Values as a Community of Believers:
Who are we? Presence Driven – Worship – Healing – Prayer – Evangelistic – Prophetic
What are we? Sending Church – Birthing Church – Mentoring Church – Giving Church – Mission Involved (local, national, global)
Zion Church is very much a multi-generational church that offers ministries designed to meet the needs of all age groups.
We are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for our infants, preschoolers, children and youth. All of our workers are carefully selected having met ministry requirements along with background and criminal record checks. These safeguards are in place to protect our children and workers.
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
Preschool (Ages 3-5)
Our preschool ministry offers biblical learning with a hands-on approach to help establish in the hearts of the children an active faith toward God and His Word. We count it a blessing to care for children and teach them the Word of God. The Gospel is presented through a variety of fun activities, Bible stories and crafts. Every lesson taught reinforces biblical truths. Children can be ministered to individually during this time. Preschool ministry is available on Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m.
Kid’s Club (Ages 6 – 11)
The children’s ministry at Zion is all about connecting kids to Jesus in fun and interactive ways. We run a high energy kids club every Sunday morning at 11:00 in which kids from kindergarten to grade 6 are challenged to grow in their relationship with God through worship, Bible teaching, and a wide variety of games and fun activities.
Our Sunday morning kids club is staffed with adults and high school students who are excited and trained to teach and minister to children.
NURSERY
Our nursery ministry’s primary purpose is to facilitate and enhance your family’s time of worship, study and service at Zion by providing a safe, sanitary, and loving environment for your child. Our nursery is staffed with professional, caring adults who provide a safe and secure environment conducive to the child’s physical, social and spiritual growth. We hope that both parents and children will feel at home in our nursery. The Nursery is available on Sunday mornings at 11:00am.
YOUTH MINISTRY
ZION:NOIZ (Ages 12 – 18)
A place where young people from ages 12 to 18 can come, have fun, and build relationships with each other and with our team of leaders. The most important relationship that we endeavor to see built is their relationship with Jesus.
We offer a balance of fun nights and outings, guy’s and girl’s nights, coffee nights, we serve nights (practical service outside of the church), and devotions.
MEN’S MINISTRY
Men’s Ministries exists to include, instruct, involve, and invest all men in Christ through vital relationships and intentional discipleship that they may actively demonstrate the Love of Jesus Christ in every aspect of their lives.
The men meet for breakfast one Saturday a month 9 to 10:30am at Zion Church for a time of devotion and fellowship. Other events are held periodically, with a speaker to address issues men face in their daily walk with God.
WOMEN’S MINISTRY
Zion Women’s Ministries is led by a Director and an executive board who have a passionate vision to see the women of Zion grow in relationship with the Lord and with one another. In order to facilitate this vision and enhance growth in the Lord, the women meet for monthly coffee fellowship times and also several day or weekend retreats are held each year which focus on topics of interest to women, teaching from the Word of God, prayer ministry and worship.
Another part of the the vision of Women’s Ministries is to organize and mobilize the women of Zion for service in practical areas such as Meal Blessings and Hospitality Teams who serve at congregational meals, special meetings and funerals.
SMALL GROUPS “Where nobody stands alone”
Zion’s small groups are the very heart of what we do as a church. It is the place in which relationships are built and in which the Holy Spirit shows up in times of prayer, worship, sharing and Bible study to encourage and instruct us as we seek to grow as followers of Jesus. In all seasons of life, Small Groups are a source of friendship and support. Within our congregation, they act as the main conduit of life and make our church feel a lot more like a family. They’re your key to developing connections with those who share your interests or are dealing with similar life issues.
Groups meet once a week in homes, or at the church. Choose from a variety of Small groups with emphasis on diverse issues and interests, such as family issues, and parenting, addictions, finances, faith, prayer etc.
It is the goal of Zion to allow the Small Group to develop healthy relationships, which will in turn equip and strengthen people for ministry.
